Episode 8: Evergreen Podcast About Comic Books And Diversity

Episode 8: Evergreen Podcast About Comic Books And Diversity

According to David Gabriel, Marvel’s VP of Sales, comic book sales are down because “people didn’t want any more diversity.” This isn’t the first time a Marvel executive — let alone executives from DC and smaller outlets — has ever blatantly avoided their company’s own problems by trying to blame low sales numbers on diversity. So Dan and Andrew decided to turn this week’s episode into an evergreen podcast about diversity and comics. (They also chat about Joss Whedon directing Batgirl, the Justice League trailer, and just how awesome FX’s Legion was.)

Episode 7: We Finally Earn Our Explicit Label

Episode 7: We Finally Earn Our Explicit Label

After a long, unplanned hiatus, Dan and Andrew return to the podcast with an exceptionally geeky episode. Logan‘s use of comic books as a sort of meta-commentary, how other mutants would suffer from old age, humans having sex with Kryptonians — yeah, we go there. (Not to mention wondering why everyone hates Zack Snyder and recalling bits by Australian comedian Jim Jefferies.)

Episode 6: Beeef, It’s What’s For Dinner

Episode 6: Beeef, It’s What’s For Dinner

Perry Eaton, Allston Pudding co-founder and former Boston.com culture writer, fills in for a sick Dan to talk about his band Beeef. (The same Beeef whose single, “Cream Soda” begins and ends every episode of the podcast.) He and Andrew chat about the band’s new album, A Beeef CD, the first songs they learned to simultaneously play on the guitar and sing, and the Grammys.

Episode 5: Graduate School: Or, How To Earn Money From Your Bodily Fluids

Episode 5: Graduate School: Or, How To Earn Money From Your Bodily Fluids

With two Bachelor of Arts degrees, two Master of Arts, and a half-assed PhD between them, Dan and Andrew spent way too much time in college. Now they write dick jokes for money, so it sort of worked out.

Episode 4: Super Bowl Or Super Bowel?

Episode 4: Super Bowl Or Super Bowel?

Gene Belcher’s “super bowel” from Bob’s Burgers notwithstanding, Andrew wonders if the NFL will sue the podcast into oblivion for saying “Super Bowl.” Dan meanwhile is pretty sure they won’t (since Lurkers isn’t making money). So the pair lurks on crazy franchise owners, hates on the New England Patriots, and otherwise remains apathetic toward #sportsing in general.

Episode 3: That’s A Swamp I Want To Drain

Episode 3: That’s A Swamp I Want To Drain

Dear America, the long national nightmare that preceded the coming bout of sleep apnea is over. Donald Trump is officially president and, with time, even our actual nightmares won’t seem half bad. To make sense of it all, Dan and Andrew invited Philly comedian and Breaking Up with Joe podcaster Joe Messina onto the show. (At which point we mostly don’t STFU and talk over Joe. Sorry! We suck at this.)

Episode 2: Anyways, Back To Wrestling

Episode 2: Anyways, Back To Wrestling

Dan had to skip town, so Andrew brought on friend and inaugural podcast guest, Michael Aranda to talk all things wrestling. “Wait, wrestling?” Yes, wrestling. Michael also brings up post-season football, which you’d think Dan and Andrew wouldn’t discuss all that much. Yet here we are…
